Legend of Big Foot
People have always been fascinated by the unknown and by stories related to bizarre sightings. Moreover, such legends have gotten notoriety with the help of certain individuals backing them up with contentious proof. The public did not remain static consequent to learning of stories concerning a creature known as Bigfoot or the Sasquatch. This tale has become more and more popular with time as a result of the masses being addicted to the extraordinary.
It appears that the legend of Bigfoot is not as recent as some might have believed, as it goes back several centuries ago, with people from different parts of the world having come up with reports of enormous hairy creatures being spotted in different places. With the coming of the twentieth century, however, people have received the privilege of using more information than their ancestors had. As a result, the legend of Bigfoot started to receive more attention and to be studied by a number of researchers.
In spite of the fact that legends related to the respective creatures are old, the term Bigfoot is rather new, and it has appeared in California in 1958 consequent to the finding of a large footprint by a Californian bulldozer operator. The term Sasquatch is older, and it has been made up by J.W. Burns. The researcher has studied several myths from the British Colombia Native tribes relating to giant hairy men living in forests. A Canadian magazine first used the term in an article, triggering its large use in the later decades.
Consequent to learning more and more of Bigfoot’s legend, people came to the conclusion that its legend resembles that of the Sasquatch. Eventually, the two creatures started to be recognized as being from the same species, and, while the term Bigfoot is wider used in the U.S., the term Sasquatch received more popularity in Canada.
In spite of the fact that most Bigfoot legends are at least controversial, there are some that actually seem to be worthy of being taken into account. The media has sprung up with a series of phony pictures and footage over the years showing Bigfoot in various conditions. Considering the many contentious sightings of Bigfoot, it is rather difficult to classify certain sightings as being true. Even with that, movies such as the Patterson Film have succeeded in receiving attention from the public because of the fact that the researchers had presented evidence that was virtually impossible to contest. There is still a long way to go in order for Bigfoot’s existence to be acknowledged, considering the fact that there will always be people coming up with fake evidence that only succeeds in bringing more mystery to the topic.
On the one hand, Bigfoot enthusiasts motivate the creature’s existence by claiming that Bigfoot is the descendent of an ancient ape named Gigantopithecus blacki. On the other hand, Scientists believe that Bigfoot, the Sasquatch, and Yeti are just fragments of people’s imagination. Moreover, they are inclined to believe that the reason for people being afraid of a creature with such characteristics is that our ancestors, the Homo erectus, have coexisted with Gigantopithecus blacki.
In order for the situation to receive attention from the world, Bigfoot supporters have to bring solid evidence to back their convictions. All of the evidence on Bigfoot’s existence gathered until now consists only of footprints, pictures, and films that cannot be verified and are considered to be hoaxes.
Whether or not Bigfoot is contemporary to us, it will always be appreciated by the public for being one of the most popular inexistent creatures ever to have existed.
